Justice Institute students, employees being targeted: RCMP

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – RCMP say 10 people have been targeted in arsons or shootings for their connections to the Justice Institute of British Columbia.

Those targeted include employees, former students, and a number of other individuals who have indirect links to the police training facility in New Westminster, according to Mounties.

The attacks have all taken place in the evening or early morning since April through this August. None of them were on campus, says RCMP Chief Supt. Janice Armstrong.

“Disturbingly it seems innocent people have been subject to arsons of their homes and vehicles and some have had their residences or vehicles shot at,” she says. “These victims do not appear to be affiliated with any criminal activity. Fortunately, no one has been physically injured in these incidents.”

Of those targeted in recent months, three are Justice Institute employees, two are former students, and the rest are loosely connected to the post-secondary school, she says.

Police do not know if they are dealing with a single suspect or a group, but it doesn’t appear anyone else is at risk, despite today’s warning as classes resumed.

The Justice Institute provides training to police and other professionals working in the justice and public safety fields.
