Gang Task Force says retaliation for Bacon murder is coming

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s been eerily quiet since notorious gangster Jonathan Bacon was gunned down in Kelowna last month, but Mounties say that could change at any minute.

Four others, including a full-patch member of the Hells Angels, were also shot.

The Gang Task Force says new intelligence suggests there will be retaliation and it could happen anywhere in the province.

“We are not slowing down and these gang members have to know that the streets of BC are not theirs,” explains Supt. Tim McCluskie. “The wanton and callous disregard for the safety of innocent bystanders was clearly demonstrated during the Kelowna incident and we as the police, must do everything we can to prevent further acts of violence and retaliation.”

SFU Director of Criminology Dr. Rob Gordon says police are trying to do a few things by saying this publicly. First, they’re trying to turn up the heat on the gangsters so they’re less likely to act.

“Police may not have enough evidence to charge them but in the interest of public safety, they actually want these folks to know they’re targeted,” he tells us. “The police would have a pretty good idea of who was involved in this.”

Gordon isn’t surprised there hasn’t been another high profile murder since Bacon was killed; he says the people involved are incredibly patient and will wait as long as it takes for the perfect opportunity to respond.
