Vancouver can’t hold off Red Bulls surge in MLS

By

HARRISON, NJ (NEWS1130) – Whitecaps FC managed to tie the New York Red Bulls 1-1 on Saturday. Vancouver’s lone goal was a sparkling strike by Davide Chiumiento in the 23rd minute.

Vancouver has 10 losses and five draws in Major League Soccer games outside of this province.

Chiumiento was flying in the first half as he had a quality chance in the 11th minute. A dozen minutes later the Swiss mid-fielder flipped the ball to himself from 10 yards out on the left side, then spun and rocketed the ball with his right foot off the crossbar to give the Caps a 1-0 lead. He then drew a foul which led to the ejection of New York mid-fielder Jan Gunnar Solli right before the end of the first half.

Vancouver couldn’t hold the lead, despite New York playing with only 10 men, as substitute Juan Agudelo entered the game in the 61st minute and scored just seven minutes later to level the game at 1-1.

Joe Cannon made four saves in the Vancouver goal.

The Caps will get another shot at a road win next Saturday in LA.
