Burnaby’s Christine Sinclair leads Canada into Pan Am Games

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Former Vancouver Women’s Whitecaps star Christine Sinclair heads the Canadian Soccer Association’s roster for the Pan American Games Guadalajara 2011.

The veteran striker and Burnaby South graduate is Canada’s all-time leading goal-scorer.

New Canadian Head Coach John Herman named 17 players today for the women’s soccer tournament, which begins on Oct. 18.  The Canadians took home the bronze medal at the Pan Am Games four years ago in Brazil.

Sinclair, 28, starred for Vancouver from 2006 to 2008, scoring 10 goals in 21 appearances for the W-League Whitecaps. She also set the all-time Division 1 goal-scoring record during her senior year at Portland University.

Sinclair turned in a gusty performance at the Women’s World Cup 2011 in Germany this summer, refusing to be subbed out of Canada’s game against Germany after breaking her nose. She would later score Canada’s only goal of the game in a 2-1 loss to the host Germans.

The Canadian players will open camp in Vancouver on October 6th before flying to Mexico for the tournament.
