Civic election revs up over bike lanes

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It seems we either hate or love the controversial bike lanes in Vancouver.  The issue is becoming a hot button issue in the upcoming civic election.

And now, NPA mayoral candidate Suzanne Anton is tapping into the hate-on.  She says she wouldn’t build any new bikes lanes and she would review existing ones.

But are bike lanes even an election issue?  One man says he loves them and to all those who insist they are underused, he says it just depends on the time of the day.  “I agree there are times of the day when doesn’t get used as much as we’d like to see it, but these are early days.”

A driver in Vancouver says any leader has to consider the future.  “Any politician that feels that encouraging citizens to use more gas instead of less gas would never get my vote.”

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson took to YouTube (video below) to respond to his critics.  He claims his political opponents are “highly negative, well-funded, and determined to take the city backward.”
