VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Camilo scored in the first minute of the game and Long Tan added a goal in the first minute of the second half as the Vancouver Whitecaps won their second game in a row, 2-1 over DC United.
It took just 42 seconds for the ‘Caps to get on the board as Jordan Harvey sent a beautiful cross into the box and right onto the foot of the Brazilian striker who made no mistake in beating the Washington keeper for the 1-0 lead.
The game stayed 1-0 for Vancouver heading into the second half and once again it didn’t take long for the ‘Caps to strike. This time Alain Rochat sent a terrific cross into the box and Long Tan got a head on it, sending it past the keeper and in for a 2-0 lead in just the 46th minute. The goal was the first of Tan’s MLS career.
United would get one back in the 57th minute though when Brandon McDonald flicked on a ball from Santino Quaranta past Joe Cannon.
That was where the scoring would end though as the Whitecaps held on for the 2-1 win, giving them their first win streak in their inaugural MLS campaign. The win also moves Vancouver out of last place in the MLS. The New England Revolution have 27 points while the ‘Caps have 28.
Camilo’s goal 42 seconds into the game actually wasn’t the fastest of the year for Vancouver. Eric Hassli scored 32 seconds into a 4-2 win over the Chicago Fire on Aug. 7th.
The Whitecaps will be back in action on Saturday in Dallas.
