Thousands affected by Shaw outage in Fraser Valley

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – A cut cable is behind the Shaw service outage that has affected thousands of customers in Langley, Aldergrove, Chilliwack and Sunnyside.

A Shaw technician tells News1130 he doesn’t know exactly how many people are without phone, Internet and cable, and that there is no estimate yet on when when the problem will be fixed.

A customer named Grace says her services have been down since about 7:30 this morning.

When she phoned the company for technical assistance she heard a message that there was a four-hour wait.

“It ticks me off, because every third month we’re getting an increase in our subscription fee, but we get less for it,” she says. “…It’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Grace complains that if you try to reach the company on a cordless phone your battery will go dead before you get through to a live person.

Bruce Mazeall, who lives in Langley, says he has no way of finding out when the problem will be fixed.

“My brother-in-law has been waiting an hour on my behalf to get a hold of them, and customer service is totally jammed,” he says.

Although it’s not clear exactly how many customers are affected, Mazeall says the outage area is “huge.”
