Lions need a win to be best in the West

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions need a win against the visiting Montreal Alouettes to finish first in the West Division which would earn them a bye to the Western Final, which would be hosted in Vancouver.

Both the Lions and Alouettes are vying for first place in their respective divisions. Their only other meeting this season was in the first week when the Alouettes took a 30-26 decision in Montreal. Als quarterback Anthony Calvillo says he knows the Lions are a much improved team since then.

“I think their defence is playing a lot tougher, everybody’s lined up in the right spot and they’re playing with passion. I think that’s what really stands out.”

Geroy Simon has a chance to make history tonight.  The veteran receiver needs 175 receiving yards to break Milt Stegall’s all-time record of 15,071.

The Leos came into the week tied for the top spot with the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders as they all had identical 10-7 records.

The Lions hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over both teams meaning if they both lost this week BC would take first place. But with Edmonton beating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 23-20 last night the Lions have to get a win.

With the Eskimos victory the Stampeders can no longer finish first in the division so they’ll need a win and BC to lose to clinch second place. Calgary hosts the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this afternoon at 1 p.m.

Kick-off at BC Place is 7 p.m.
