Tuesday marks the day gamers have been anxiously awaiting for months, as the latest installment of the immensely poplar “Call of Duty” franchise hits store shelves.

The franchise has been one of the most popular in the history of video games, with the last rendition, Call of Duty Black Ops, smashing previous sales records in Canada.

“Black Ops sold about $1.3-million units, which equates to $81 million dollars,” said Matthew Tattle, a video game manager for the market research company, the NPD group.

The military-based first-person shooter games have always sold well, and with the holiday season accounting for more than half of all video game sales, the November release is perfect for the highly anticipated shooter.

“The fact that we have another Call of Duty Modern Warfare coming out, is just great for video game industry,” Tattle said.

Fans will line up at midnight Monday, in hopes of being one the first to get their hands on the game during the midnight release.

Numerous stores will hold release parties, and many will be open at midnight for gamers to get their copy.

Some of the major release parties include at the Future Shop at 325 Yonge St., the Best Buy store at Bay and Dundas Streets and the EB Games location at 267 Yonge St.
