Weird and wacky stories that topped News1130.com in 2011

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – As we count down the top 11 stories of the year, there are some less newsworthy stories that got lots of web hits. We’re looking at some of the oddities that caught your attention.

Sure, we focused on stories like the Stanley Cup riot and Occupy Vancouver, but sometimes there are others that get shared, commented, liked and tweeted.

In our top 100, there were six boobs – those of Wayne Gretzky’s daughter Paulina, those of our Premier Christy Clark and then there’s Shia LaBeouf and DJ Qualls. (It’s a joke, DJ Qualls!)

The two celebs make it in for scuffles downtown. Labeouf got in a fight while Qualls claimed the Vancouver Police roughed him up.

Twitter asked the question of how much cleavage is too much for the two women. It’s fair to say Paulina pushed the boundary a bit further, prompting her dad to get her to take a break from social networking.  (It didn’t last long – she’s back.)

It’s not just the scantily-clad ladies you want to see. Our 7th most read story of the year is a sneak peek at a Ryan Kesler baring all.

He didn’t make it very far, but people sure did like the story about a man trying to take a full sized fridge in the trunk of his car.  The picture tells the story.  Maybe he just wanted to get the new buy home before the end of the world.

May 21st it was supposed to happen. A story about that was also well-read. Though poorly executed. We’re still here, rapture.

Also failed, lots of vanity license plates.

Squeaking in among the more serious hockey coverage during the playoffs – those Green Men had to deal with a complaint filed with the NHL.

While it is doubtful either have any problems with the ladies, they could check out a dating night at the library.

If you think any of these stories weren’t worthy of the top 100, blame yourself, you visted them.
