Another Abbotsford woman overdoses on ecstasy

By

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A 24-year-old woman is in critical condition after overdosing on ecstasy.  The woman and three friends were taking it during a New Year’s gathering.

When paramedics got to the home on George Ferguson Way the woman was unconscious and unresponsive.

Cst. Ian MacDonald says part of the problem was that because everyone at the home was intoxicated, quick action was not taken when the woman ran into trouble. “Unfortunately, after the group takes their last dose sometime around 4 a.m., the medical emergency for this young lady kicks in. It was two hours later that the 911 call was received,” he explains.

He says it’s a harsh reminder that illegal drugs are never safe to take. “There is no such thing as good illicit drugs. Somebody can take a single pill and it can have tragic consequences.  In the case of this 24-year-old, it looks like she took several pills, and that was her undoing.”

This is the second serious incident involving ecstasy in Abbotsford in the last couple of weeks.  A 17-year-old girl died last month after overdosing.  She had been using the drug to control her weight.

Abbotsford Police are again warning everyone about the risks of taking illicit drugs in any form or quantity.
