Man who raped child at knifepoint to serve 5 years, 7 months

COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – He broke into a 12-year-old girl’s room in Coquitlam more than two years ago and raped her at knifepoint, threatening to gouge out her eyes if she fought back.

Forty-six–year-old Antonio Eduardo Daponte was sentenced today.

A BC Supreme Court judge in New Westminster handed Daponte 10 years but because the attack happened before two-for-one credit was revoked in 2010, he’ll spend just five years and seven months behind bars.

In addition he will be on a sex offender registry for the rest of his life despite no previous sex-related offences, and he must submit his DNA.

News1130 has learned Daponte is also permanently banned from working or volunteering with children, a special order requested by the Crown after his sentencing.

Daponte was a family friend of the victim’s parents, out on bail for property crimes when the attack happened.
