VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – In career game number 700, Roberto Luongo made 28 saves to record his second shutout of the season, as the Canucks blanked Minnesota 3-0. Henrik Sedin had two assists to regain NHL scoring lead.
Vancouver’s first line was a threat all through the game, as Daniel Sedin scored his 18th near the seven-minute mark of the first and just under four minutes later, Alex Burrows bagged his 15th of the season to give the Canucks a 2-0 lead. Manny Malhotra scored with 29 seconds left in the game on an empty net to finish off the scoring.
With his two helpers, Henrik Sedin now leads the league in scoring with 48 points, two better than Claude Giroux of the Flyers. Luongo now has 57 shutouts in his career. Both shutouts of this season have come versus the Wild.
The Wild are sliding, with 10 losses in their last 11 games. The Canucks now lead Minnesota by five points in the Northwest Division.
In fact, Vancouver has dominated Minnesota at Rogers Arena. The Canucks have outscored their divisional rivals 38-14 in the last 10 games in BC. Eight of those games have been outright Canucks wins.
As they reach the half way point of the season, the Canucks are now in first place overall in the NHL with 53 points.
