Most Canadians spent less than planned this holiday season and it means many bank accounts entered 2012 in good shape.
A survey by BMO found that Canadians spent an average of just over a $1,000 on gifts, trips and entertaining over the season, which is $300 less than planned.
Most people polled also said their holiday spending will not keep them from meeting their financial goals this year.
Reducing debt and saving for retirement topped the list of financial goals for Canadians.
