NDP demands answers about CLBC reviews

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The provincial NDP alongside dozens of people are holding rallies throughout the day to pressure the Liberal goverment to release information about Community Living BC.

NDP Leader Adrian Dix says it’s unacceptable that 65 group homes have been shut down and 2,800 special needs adults remain on a wait-list to get into one.

“They haven’t an independent review to address the issues of young people transitioning from 18 to 19 into the adult system and to have an immediate moratorium on group homes, those are our proposals.”

The government has done internal reviews, but no information has been released yet.

Dix says anything to do with a community group like CLBC should always be made public.

There have been several complaints from the disabled, the mentally ill or their families of poor treatment, lost funding, a lack of compassion, and group home closures.
