VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s retail sales had one of their best months of the year in November, according to the most recent report from Statistics Canada.  Retailers in this province had total sales of $5.1 billion, which is 2.8 per cent higher than the total one year earlier.

BC is part of a bright nationwide retail sales report for the month. Canada’s cash registers rang up $38.7 billion in sales.

Sporting goods, hobby, book and music stores saw their sales jump by 2.9 per cent for the fourth straight month.  Clothing shops reported a jump of 0.9 per cent for the third straight month.

Ontario was a relatively weak spot with a gain of less than one per cent, while Alberta continued to lead the way among major provinces with a retail sales increase topping 11 per cent to $5.6 billion, half a billion more than BC’s total.
