Vancouver Island man wants to use recall against pipeline

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man who launched, and failed, two recall campaigns against an MLA on Vancouver Island in the 1990s now wants to use the same recall act to trigger a referendum on the proposed Enbridge pipeline in northern BC.

Robert Saint Amour claims it will be no problem to muster the necessary manpower and funds to launch the petition.  A successful recall campaign must include the signatures of 10 per cent of all eligible voters in BC.

“The Green Party has been extremely supportive, offering me some resources. There doesn’t seem to be any lack of people who want to collect signatures. I’m turning away people right now,” he says.

But he admits the basics aren’t in place yet. “I need a website. I need a better server. We’re received thousands of emails. It’s definitely something I wasn’t expecting. I’m overwhelmed.”

His priority now is working on the exact wording to be put on the petition.

He says he became passionate about the pristine waters off our coast while raising his daughter on a sailboat.
