What’s it like to crush cars in a monster truck rally?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With a name like Cam McQueen, he was born to drive. News1130 caught up with the Canadian ahead of Monster Jam at BC Place tomorrow.

Northern Nightmare is the only 100 per cent Canuck team on the circuit. We asked McQueen what it’s really like to crush cars.

“It’s a 10,000-pound truck, there are literally six-foot-tall fires and you’re 10-feet off the ground. Your neck and your head are all in a restraint system to protect it, so you really can’t see a whole lot. Your peripheral vision is very limited and you can basically only see out the front windshield,” he describes.

“You’ve got a 1,500 horsepower motor strapped to your butt, so you definitely have to mind your manners in there,” he adds.

“We go out and jump over school buses and crush cars, have wheelie competitions and throw mud all over the place. It’s a whole lot of fun.. [It’s] living the dream! It sounds like a cliche, but for me, it’s reality,” McQueen tells us.

He adds he is a proud Canadian. “To be able to represent my own country is an honour.”
