Man deported after assaulting prostitute

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A man from Zimbabwe who pleaded guilty to assaulting a prostitute in Abbotsford has been deported.

Wilson Chibesa, who was 23 years old at the time of the attack, was a student living in Canada on a visa. He met a 44-year-old woman in an apartment building on South Fraser Way in September, 2010.

Const. Ian MacDonald says the trouble started after the woman performed a sexual act and asked to be paid.

“He refused to pay and pushed her to the ground,” MacDonald said. “He actually stuck his fingers down her throat as she was trying to call out, which caused her pain and stopped any ability she had to call out for help.”

The woman called police and Chibesa was arrested soon after.

“This is a case where a person at this point in her life may have felt marginalized and disadvantaged, but had the courage to stick up for herself and other women,” MacDonald said.  “It was based on her drive and her courage that we were able to bring forward a very strong case against this man.”

Chibesa was also convicted on drug charges and was sentenced to jail and probation in July, 2011. He fought to stay in Canada, but exhausted the last of his appeal options last month.

Chibesa was put on a plane to Zimbabwe on Jan. 30, 2012.
