Lions add pair of players through free agency

SURREY (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions signed a pair of free agents on Thursday, agreeing to terms with defensive back Byron Parker and Canadian running back Stu Foord.

Parker is a three-time CFL All-Star which includes last season. He appeared in all 18 games for the Toronto Argonauts in 2011, recording a career-high 50 tackles with five interceptions. The 33-year-old is the league’s all-time leader in interceptions returned for touchdowns with nine.

In a statement, Lions coach Mike Benevides said the addition of Parker gives an already dangerous defensive unit another weapon. “In a secondary full of playmakers I’m very pleased to make room for one more. Byron will not only fit into what we will be doing on defence, he’ll be another veteran presence in our dressing room.”

Foord has spent all four years of his CFL career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 71 career games the Regina native has amassed 312 rushing yards on 56 carries and 122 yards on 12 receptions.
