Many Canadians to celebrate Oscars in their own way

The Academy Awards might be thousands of kilometres away, but people here in Toronto are already getting ready to celebrate.

While the Oscars are the biggest night in show business for Hollywood, they are also a big night for many people at home.

From office pools to Oscar parties to something of a costume party, there appears to be something for everybody.

“I’m going to my boyfriends house and we’re going to get dressed up and have dinners, and then watch the Oscars,” one girl told 680News.

“I’m going to my friend’s (house) and we’re probably just going to live Tweet it,” one man said.

Not everybody we spoke to was feeling the Oscar love however, and some said they might be channel surfing instead.

“I don’t really plan to,” said one girl. “Just not really interested.”

“No I do not (plan to watch the Oscars), because I am not a television watcher in fact, but I do admire the cause and what they do and I love celebrities,” said one man.

If you’ll be watching or need an update, 680News will have full Oscar coverage with Globiz editor Gloria Martin and film critic Leslie James.
