DALLAS, TX (NEWS1130) – Mike Ribeiro scored with 53 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime and then Loui Eriksson had the winner in the extra frame as the Dallas Stars edged the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams played a quiet first period. Dallas was unsuccessful on the only powerplay attempt in the opening 20 minutes, as the score remained tied at zero.

It didn’t take long for the scoring to be opened in the second period. Ryan Kesler beat Kari Lehtonen with a wrist shot off the rush that handcuffed the Stars’ goalie just 56 seconds into the middle frame.

Vancouver increased its lead to 2-0 at the 13:11 mark of the second as Mason Raymond just threw a puck on the net from the left circle and it found a way through Lehtonen and in.

The Stars were able to cut into the Vancouver lead before the second period ran up. Michael Ryder hammered home a one-timer on a powerplay with 1:56 remaining.

Late in the game the Canucks were called for icing, but they argued that the Dallas defenceman could have easily reached the puck before it crossed the goal line. The call turned out to be crucial because off the ensuing faceoff Mike Ribeiro tipped home an Alex Goligoski point shot to pull the game even at 2-2.

In overtime, Trevor Daley spotted a wide open Loui Eriksson at the side of the net and he buried the winner with 1:08 remaining.

The loss was the first for the Canucks in overtime this season. They had a 5-0 record in games decided in the extra frame, not including shootouts.

The Canucks will wrap up their six-game road trip against the Coyotes in Phoenix on Tuesday.
