TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Apple has announced its latest version of the iPad, called simply the “new iPad,” will be available March 16 in Canada. The new iPad will start at $499 (U.S.) for the WiFi version.
It will be Apple’s first 4G/LTE device, which Rogers Director of Wireless Internet Neil Shuart told News1130 is great for the consumer.
“It means faster speeds, it means a better browsing experience, it means you can do more on the go once you’re connected to the 4G/LTE network,” Shuart explained.
The new iPad will have 3.1 million pixels, which is more than a million pixels than an average home HDTV.
The iPad with WiFi price points are: $499 (16GB) $599 (32GB) and $699 (64GB). Rogers, Bell and Telus will support LTE on new iPad.
Apple is keeping the iPad 2 and has dropped the base price to $399.
Apple also announced the latest version of Apple TV, which will support 1080p. It includes a new user interface, access to movies previously purchased on iCloud and iPhone photos.
CityNews technology reporter Mike Yawney (aka @gadget_guy) tweeted live updates and photos from the Apple event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in downtown San Francisco.
