Canucks and Jets fuel fans with fun hockey

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Samuel Pahlsson ended an entertaining evening of wide open hockey with just under six minutes to go in the game as the Canucks edged Winnipeg 3-2. It was the Swede’s first goal for Vancouver.

Acquired at the trade deadline, Pahlsson wired a wrist shot high over the glove of Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec. Kevin Bieksa assisted on the final goal and has five assists in his last four games.

Earlier in the final period, the Jets’ Blake Wheeler and Vancouver’s Alex Edler exchanged goals.

After just a goal in his last 13 games, Ryan Kesler opened the scoring with a short handed goal just before the two minute mark of the middle period. Kesler finished the game with six shots on goal. He also hit the cross bar twice.

Late in the second period, former Canuck Kyle Wellwood made a nifty move in tight to score on Cory Schneider to even the game 1-1 after 40 minutes.

The game featured some wide open play with plenty of scoring chances. The final shots on goal favoured Vancouver 45-32.

Vancouver ends a two game winless slide. The Canucks are now second overall in the NHL and the Western Conference after the St. Louis Blues took over top spot after 3-1 home win over Anaheim.

Up next for the Canucks on this home stand, the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night.
