Tricky driving conditions as winter isn’t over just yet

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Winter isn’t over just yet as the threat of a few late-winter snowflakes in the forecast could be even more of a concern if you’re headed out of town.

Drivers are being warned to expect tricky conditions on the way to Whistler or the Interior. Highway mountain passes got hit with blasts of snow over the last few days causing headaches for drivers.

Jeff Wiseman with the Ministry of Transportation tells News1130 winter is far from over. “I think we can expect winter conditions on those upper elevations for the entire Spring Break period. We can get storm cells rolling through there with very little notice.”

More snow is expected in Whistler and the Interior today and tomorrow

“It may be warm down below in the valleys but up in higher elevation on the Coquihalla Connector and Coquihalla, we’re still experiencing winter up there,” explains Wiseman. “You’ll need your winter tires or chains if you’re planning on travelling on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Coquihalla, and the Okanagan Connector.”

Wiseman adds if you do need to stop for any reason, use the chain-up areas and don’t park in the middle of the highway. It’s also a good idea to keep your car well equipped for winter driving until May.
