VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Backcountry enthusiasts are being warned about avalanches in BC’s Interior again.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre issued the special warning for the third time in four weeks.

Shannon Werner with the Centre says the North Shore Mountains and Whistler area are not included but are still dangerous.

“The Sea-to-Sky Region and North Shore Mountains received anywhere from a metre to two metres of snow in the past week,” explains Werner. “A whole lot of new storm snow and a lot of strong southerly wind means avalanche conditions have become high. High means very dangerous avalanche conditions.”

If you are planning on going into the backcountry this weekend, the CAC says you need to have extensive experience, local knowledge and training.

Three people have died in separate avalanches in the last week.
