VANCOUVER (News1130)- Cyclists are worried about a highrise development being proposed in Mount Pleasant.
Bikes on 10th Avenue could be sharing the road with a lot more traffic if the project moves ahead.
The south-side of the 19-storey Rize tower at Kingsway and Broadway would front onto 10th Avenue – a major bicycle route.
Kari Hewett is the former chair of the city’s bike advisory committee. She says adding parking for hundreds of residents, and significant retail space, will mean heavier traffic on 10th.
“No matter what you do to try and mitigate large, vehicle traffic around a bike route, it’s still going to impact people’s feeling and apprehension and safety.”
The height of the Rize tower is also drawing criticism.
The city resumes a public hearing on the project later this month.
