Protesters escorted out of House of Commons during federal budget

By

OTTAWA – As Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty was tabled his budget, protesters interrupted in the House of Commons.

More than a dozen people began chanting in the public gallery in the House before being led away by security.

The protesters chanted “This is not our budget. Where are we in your budget?”

The commotion began around the same time as opposition leaders began coming out to blast the government for it’s cuts.

“Conservatives were elected on a promise to create jobs, instead they’re slashing healthy care, they’re slashing pensions. It’s a betrayal of the prime minister’s promise in this house barely a few months ago,” said the NDP’s Thomas Mulcair.

Mulcair even quoted Prime Minister Stephen Harper when he said he would not make the cuts.

He added that  Canadians are going to suffer in the long term thanks to this fiscal blueprint.

The Liberals say the fiscal plan is mean spirited and a shell game, adding that the Conservatives have created the same fiscal problems they claim to be fixing.
