Mountie accused of firing his gun at home

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – A veteran RCMP officer has been suspended and charged for apparently firing his gun inside his home Wednesday night while his wife and children were nearby. Police are not saying what led up to the gunfire.

Langley RCMP Inspector Amrik Virk says officers were called to a home on 209th Street around 9 p.m.; that’s when Constable Michael Roe had apparently fired a shot into a wall.

“He’s facing one charge of careless use of firearm,” says Virk. “A code of conduct has been ordered and he’s now been suspended from duty.”

For now, he is suspended with pay.

Roe, 46, works for the Federal Enforcement Branch and has 20 years of experience. The RCMP will not say if he has been disciplined in the past.

Nobody was hurt in the incident, but the gun was seized. Roe was held in custody overnight. More charges could be coming.

Virk is not saying whether it happened during a domestic dispute or was simply an accident.
