VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Caring for the Air 2012 goes before Metro Vancouver’s environment and parks committee Wednesday. The report will give an update on air quality and climate change programs across the region.

It finds while AirCare has reduced smog in the region over the past decade, any gains will be undone by urban sprawl and population growth by the year 2025.

While AirCare and better vehicle emission standards are being praised for lowering carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide levels, the report says more needs to be done to get people out of their cars.

The research finds cars are still one of the largest sources of air pollution.
