Lessons learned from Lougheed traffic change confusion

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Road crews are taking your criticism seriously. Drivers were caught off guard on Friday by a traffic pattern change on Lougheed Highway and Highway One through Coquitlam, including a new overpass at Schoolhouse Road.

Max Logan with Port Mann Highway One Improvement Project spoke live this morning with anchors Reaon Ford and Tanya Fletcher. He admits more notice would have helped with the chaos.

“Because it was new to drivers and some weren’t necessarily looking for the signs that perhaps it didn’t work as well for as it might. This week we’re hoping that things will go more smoothly because drivers have had a couple of days now to get used to the change.”

Logan adds they hope to apply lessons learned from Friday in the future.

“We did hear from drivers on Friday, some thought the new overpass was great, but some who told us that we could do a better job particularly with some of the signage that we have on the corridor. We’re certainly looking to see what, if anything, we need to do differently when we implement future traffic pattern changes.”
