Over 500 electric car charging stations coming to BC

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It could soon be easier to charge up an electric car in this province. The province is throwing almost $3 million towards its Clean Energy Vehicle Program.

There are 570 public car charging stations slated to go up around the province one year from now.  Where they will go has yet to be determined says Environment Minister Terry Lake.

“Going from the lower mainland to the interior for instance, we could envision having charging points along the Coquihalla Highway, the Trans Canada Highway, as rest stops, perhaps motor vehicle branch stations,” explains Lake.

He wants to help eliminate “range anxiety.” Currently, many people are worried to leave the Lower Mainland on longer trips for fear they will not be able to charge up outside major centres.

Lake adds, “The first part will be planning to make sure we have the right areas and then hopefully we will see this summer some of these charging points being put in.”

Twenty-two per cent of the Canada’s electric car sales come from BC right now.
