You can vote for BC’s worst roads

VANCOUVER (NEWS113) – What BC road do you most hate driving? BCAA wants to know which routes are the worst in the province, and they are conducting their second annual ‘worst roads’ survey.

The Lower Mainland did pretty well last year, with just five routes in BC’s Top 20.

BCAA’s Ken Cousin says the rankings rely on votes from the public, naming what they see as the worst road in BC. “So we’re looking for roads that have potholes, or crumbly pavement that is basically deteriorating for safety, poor road signs, or road markings for safety, and poor roads in regards to regards to pedestrian or cycling safety.”

Cousin adds their annual survey is an important tool. “It’s certainly not to criticize all the great work the government and municipalities are doing on roads, but maybe to highlight and showcase some of the roads that may not have hit their radar, or maybe move them higher on their priority list”

There are a number of reason to vote – congestion can be reason to nominate, that was the case for the Patullo Bridge in 2011, as it ranked third worst in the province with more than 240 votes.

Among the other routes noted on the 2011 list were the Massey Tunnel in 10th place, with the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge finishing right behind it in 11th.

Last year, the number one worst road was Ospika Boulevard South in Prince George.
