Frozen berries may contain Hepatitis A

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If you have packages of Western Family Pomeberry Blend frozen berries, throw them out.

The BC Centre for Disease Control is investigating eight cases of Hepititis A that could be linked to the berries, which are sold at Save-On-Foods, Overwaitea and PriceSmart.

The berries are sold in 600-gram packages and have the UBC 0 62639 31347 0. All lot codes are affected.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is reminding you food contaminated with Hepatitis A may not look or smell spoiled.

The CFIA says the illness is usually mild and starts about 15 to 50 days after the contaminated food is eaten. It usually goes away by itself in a week or two, although it can last up to six months in some people.

Hepatitis A can cause inflammation of the liver. Symptoms may include fever, low appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, and yellowing in the whites of the eyes and the skin (jaundice).

The Overwaitea Food Group is recalling the berries.
