Inaugural Bad Boss Award handed out

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Have you ever quit a job — or wished you did — because of your boss?

One of BC’s worst bosses may be singled out this morning in the inaugural Bad Boss Award, presented by the Employee Action and Rights Network.

Ahead of that, we are hearing your ‘bad boss’ stories, and it seems there are plenty of them!

Workplace morale, passive-aggressive behaviour and safety issues are all hot-button topics, but one employee News1130 spoke with has an added complication.

“What if she’s my sister? She’s nice as a person but she doesn’t give clear direction,” he says. ” I’m not going to disclose my name in case she [reads] this!”

Robert is a construction boss who puts worker safety first, but he admits he’s not easy to work for.

“I try to treat them not too nice. I like a little conflict between the guys otherwise they become too ‘buddy buddy’. It works, you work them hard and they’re happy. You give them respect but dole out the punishment when necessary.”

The Bad Boss Award will be presented at 10 a.m. in Vancouver where the BC Federation of Labour will also call for an audit for the employer.

It is also the launch of the “Make Work Better” campaign to improve employment standards for workers in BC.
