NDP MLA wants formal apology from Harry Bloy

By

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – A Liberal MLA is apologizing for his latest gaffe – saying that many things are said in the heat of debate.

Burnaby-Lougheed MLA Harry Bloy has had to apologize for calling NDP leader Adrian Dix a liar and a thief in the Legislature.

“I do apologize. I did withdraw the remarks unequivocally,” says Bloy after he was ordered to by the Speaker.

NDP MLA John Horgan says they were debating smart meters when Bloy went on his rant.

“Why [the Liberals] selected Harry Bloy to be one of their five speakers was odd to start with,” explains Horgan. “It seemed to me almost a deliberate attempt to try and get some attention.”

He calls the attack outrageous and feels Bloy needs to make a formal apology to Dix.

Horgan also wants Premier Christy Clark to meet with Bloy to discuss his bad behaviour. However, he doesn’t think the Liberals put him up to this because he’s not seeking re-election next year.

“Harry may feel he has nothing to lose, but although his career hasn’t been a distinguished one, he’s doing himself no favors by behaving this way in the twilight of his career.”

Bloy was the only MLA to back Christy Clark when she ran for the Liberal leadership.

He resigned as Minister of State for Multiculturalism after he admitted to leaking a document last month.
