BC restaurants cheering for Canucks victory in Game 4

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s restaurant industry stands to lose big time if the Canucks can’t pull off four straight wins in their first round playoff series with the LA Kings.

Ian Tostenson with the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association says each Canucks playoff game generates about a $1-million for the restaurant industry in BC. And right now, he’s hoping for the best.

“Comparatively we have had years – two or three years – of incremental sales from this [playoffs] so the industry will feel it. There’s no question.”

Mark von Schellwitz is the Vice President of the Canadian Restaurant and Food Services Association. He says the NHL playoffs are a bit of a double-edged sword.

“Because restaurants that don’t have TV’s and don’t cater to playoff fans, it may actually increase their business.”

Both Tostenson and von Schellwitz believe liquor sales will be impacted the most.

Game 4 between the Canucks and Kings goes tomorrow night from the Staples Center in LA. Game time is at 7 p.m.
