Highway 1 switch-up has drivers scrambling in Surrey

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A big switch-up on Highway 1 in Surrey has a lot of drivers scrambling today.

The 152nd Street exit eastbound has been moved back to the right-hand side. For the past three months, the exit was on the left because of construction.

This morning, some drivers were accidentally exiting onto 152nd Street and then trying to figure out how to get back on the highway.

Pam Ryan is with the Port Mann / Highway One Improvement Project. She says they did learn some lessons when the exit to United Boulevard and the Mary Hill Bypass was moved on the Lougheed Highway.

“We have extra signage in place before the exit, at the exit, and after the exit. We have also been advertising for the past several weeks.”

“The good thing about this is we’re moving a temporary exit back to the right exit, which is the typical pattern that you see,” adds Ryan. “We’re hopeful people will be able to make the adjustment very quickly.”

Expect big delays this afternoon heading eastbound as that’s when the heaviest traffic will be heading back to Surrey.
