Police looking at possible link between Abbotsford bombings

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Two bombings in Abbotsford over the last three and a half months and police are looking into a possible link.

The first one was on New Year’s Eve. There was a powerful explosion at a townhouse on Peardonville Road. Then last month, a small bomb blew up in a car parked outside an apartment building.

Abbotsford Police Constable Ian MacDonald says the owners of the car and the people living in the townhouse are known to police, but stopped short of calling them gangsters.

“I wouldn’t necessarily put them very high on the pecking order, but people that are involved at different levels in other types of crime will often end up nudging up against people who are gang-involved.”

“We believe that through their past or present associations, there could be an explanation as to why these two specific pieces of property could be targeted,” adds MacDonald.

He adds because the car and townhouse were empty when the explosions happened, the bomber probably wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, just trying to send a “crude message.”
