Mom takes hit for bike going 300 km/hr

SAANICH (NEWS1130) – Police in Saanich have seized a motorcycle that about 220,000 people have viewed on YouTube going as fast as 300 km/hr on a Vancouver Island Highway a couple of weeks ago.

Sergeant Dean Jantzen says they know who did it, thanks to tips. But since no one is coming forward to take responsibility, the mother of the person they believe was riding the motorcycle is taking the fall. She’s the bike’s registered owner and has been slapped with three tickets totalling about $1,400.

“We’re left with taking action against the registered owner because we cannot conclusively prove who was driving it. We believe the person who was riding this bike has been talking about it,” explains Jantzen, who adds the next step is forfeiture of the bike.

“What we are looking for is direct evidence; someone claiming they were the rider directly to someone else, not by way of electronic forum. We are looking for that key witness,” says Jantzen.

The rider has more than two dozen traffic tickets for things like speeding and not having a valid driver’s licence. The speedy video was posted to YouTube last week under the account name Joe Blow.
