SURREY (NEWS1130) – Surrey’s mayor says she fully supports a ban on chaining dogs up in yards.
This comes after council heard a presentation from a dog rescue group that’s been in legal trouble lately.
A Better Life Dog Rescue founder Janet Olson won over council with her slideshow, arguing chaining up dogs isn’t humane.
Mayor Dianne Watts, who is a dog owner, even wants to endorse the ban province-wide at the next Union of BC municipality meeting.
Olson is accused of stealing dogs from people’s homes in several cities across the Lower Mainland.
“There’s two separate issues,” says Watts. “We deal with a lot of different organizations, so (Olson) would be one, that organization would be one, in terms of just looking at the legislation.”
Olson is awaiting trial and is due back in court next month.
