Cost of parking taking a bigger bite out of your budget

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – If the cost of parking is taking a bigger bite out of your monthly budget lately, you aren’t alone.

The City of Vancouver says people dumped more than $42 million into parking meters last year. That’s an increase of about $10 million from 2009.

This woman admits parking in places like Gastown is a little pricey. “We were at Gastown last weekend and it was about $4 per hour. I think that’s a little much.”

“There must be other ways instead of charging and charging and charging the individual,” believes this woman.

“I use them a lot, so I spend at least $20 a week,” adds another frustrated driver.

A report in today’s Vancouver Sun notes the spike in parking revenue coincides with a hefty increase in the number of meters installed around town.
