DETROIT, MI (NEWS1130) – Victoria’s Michael Saunders knocked in a pair of runs with a double in the third inning and added a one-run double in the ninth as the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 7-4.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Mariners, who were kicking off a three-game series with the Tigers.

Chone Figgins got the Mariners on the board in the first inning as he scored on a Jesus Montero single, and then Dustin Ackley came home to make it 2-0 on a Kyle Seager single in the third. That set up Saunders’ first double of the night, which brought home Seager as well as Ichiro Suzuki.

The Tigers scored all four of their runs in a three-inning span as Alex Avila hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning after Brandon Inge scored in the third. Miguel Cabrera rounded out the Detroit scoring with a solo shot in the fifth inning.

With the Mariners leading 6-4 in the ninth inning, Saunders belted his second double of the game. Ichiro came home on the play but Casper Wells was thrown out trying to score.

In 14 games this season, Saunders has five RBI and he’s hitting .229. He’s in his fourth season with Seattle.
