TORONTO (NEWS1130) – The secret is finally out! The man who will star as the first-ever bachelor on Bachelor Canada is former Canadian Football League player Brad Smith.

The show premieres this fall on Citytv, and will feature nine episodes.

Smith, 28, is a former CFL wide receiver who has played for the Montreal Alouettes, the Toronto Argonauts and the Edmonton Eskimos.

He grew up in the small town of Hudson, Que., and graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.

“I’m extremely honoured to be chosen as Canada’s first bachelor. I take this experience very seriously, and I truly believe in the process,” Smith said in a release.

“I can’t wait to meet all the wonderful Canadian women who have put their lives on hold to experience all of this with me. I hope I can live up to their expectations, as I know they’ll absolutely exceed mine.”

Smith said he is looking for a low-maintenance gal who enjoys the outdoors.

“I tend to sometimes attract not exactly the right kind of woman, so I figured what better way than to pick from 35 different women from all across Canada.”

Smith is the son of Senator Larry Smith — the former CFL Commissioner and former president and CEO of the Alouettes

The identity of the show’s host and the 25 bachelorettes will be announced at a later date.
