WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWS1130) – It was one year ago tonight that U.S. Navy commandos killed Osama bin Laden in a raid on his compound in Pakistan.

And now we’re learning more about the former al-Qaeda leader as some documents are newly declassified.

We know bin Laden sat around watching tapes of speeches he delivered, that he was convinced al-Qaeda had lost its way, and that he wasn’t in touch with his lieutenants.

We also now know from documents ceased during the raid on bin Laden’s complex that he was obsessed with killing US President Barack Obama.

Obama has been accused by political rivals of using the anniversary for political advantage in the run-up to November’s presidential election, but he points out he’s just marking another election promised he’s kept.

US counter terrorism forces have killed roughly half of the al-Qaeda’s top 20 leaders since last year’s raid.

The President’s top counter terrorism advisor, John Brennan, thinks bin Laden’s old team of terrorist has been completely dismantled.
