Man arrested in connection with fake ticket scam

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Abbotsford Police have made an arrest after several people complained about being duped into buying fake concert tickets last month.

Police got a few calls from people like 19-year-old Emily Walcott of Maple Ridge who spent $200 on bogus tickets to a Coldplay concert that she found on Craigslist.

“I went to the concert, the ticket takers tried to scan my tickets and they weren’t scanning. I was sent to a different booth where she told me they were actually photo-shopped,” explains Walcott. “I was angry at the people who sold those tickets to me and I was also angry at myself because I could see some things that maybe I should have caught on to.”

Abbotsford Police Constable Ian MacDonald says when police got word of this scheme, a detective went onto Craigslist, found some bogus tickets for sale and set up a buy.

“He produced four bogus tickets in exchange for cash and was somewhat surprised when he was immediately handcuffed and arrested.”

MacDonald points out the 24-year-old man will be charged with one count of fraud. “So we’ll see if we can connect-the-dots and maybe lay a series of charges. Certainly at this point, he has become a focal point in those investigations.”
