VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks have announced that they’ve agreed to a contract extension with team President and General Manager Mike Gillis.

Gillis has been in the position for the past four seasons and led the Canucks to back-to-back Presidents’ Trophies as the NHL’s top team in the regular season. He also guided Vancouver to its first trip to the Stanley Cup Final in 17 years as the Canucks fell just short of the ultimate prize in 2011.

“I am proud of the work our entire organization has done these past four years and look forward to continuing to build on our success,” says Gillis. “We are driven every day to try and win the Stanley Cup and will continue to focus on being a strong organization both on and off the ice.”

Gillis is the 10th General Manager in Canucks’ team history. He received the General Manager of the Year Award at the 2011 NHL Awards.

In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not released.
