Fire risk around the province is low to moderate

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The fire risk is low to moderate around most of BC, as warmer temperatures are encouraging more people to venture into our forests.

It’s been a slow start to the fire season, but our weather is drying out.

There has been about 100 fires in the province so far this year, well off the ten year average of 170, to this point in May.

Fire Information Officer Fionna Tollovsen says they are keeping a close eye on the situation heading in to next weekend.

“We are expecting temperatures to cool slightly later next week, but we aren’t expecting any significant rainfalls,” she explains. “We ask the public to continue being careful when they’re enjoying the outdoors for the long weekend.”

Tollovsen says parts of the Prince George fire centre are already facing a high fire risk.
