RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Two brothers in their teens are dead after an accident in Richmond.

RCMP were called to the scene around 3:05 a.m.

“This happened at Number 4 Road and Steveston in Richmond.” explains Staff Sgt Dave Conrod with Richmond RCMP. “It appears that a single vehicle struck a tree. The driver, who was believed to be under the influence of a substance, was taken to hospital.”

RCMP confirm the passenger side of the vehicle was the initial impact point, killing a 16 and 19-year-old, who were brothers. The driver was taken to Vancouver General Hospital with minor injuries, but has since been released.

Mounties say speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

Names are not being released at this time as the next of kin is being notified.
