MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – Investigators are at the scene of a deadly stabbing in Maple Ridge.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. RCMP were called to Ridge Meadows Hospital after a 36-year-old man arrived there with serious stab wounds. He died a short time later.

Mounties believe the man, who is known to police, was stabbed during a fight near 223 Street and McIntosh Avenue.

“The deceased male was not alone when he came to the hospital as some friends had brought him in. Based on information we received, it lead us back to where the altercation occured,” explains Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Corporal Adam MacIntosh.

Investigators are now at a nearby apartment building trying to figure out how that location connects to the stabbing.

Residents living nearby say the neighbourhood has developed a reputation for being a little rough.

“People that seem to wander around,” says Jeremy Addinell. “There’s a lot of quote unquote undesirables.”

MacIntosh says investigators will be on the scene for at least the rest of the day. “Early indications are this is not gang related.”

The name of the victim is not being released right now as next of kin is notified.
